Counseling Services at Northern

The EXITO Counseling Office has moved from the Administration Building to VE 203-A, just south of the elevator on the second floor.

Northern's Counseling Office provides a safe place for students to speak with a counselor about mental health issues such as stress, parenting, relationships, family problems, domestic violence, gender issues, and substance abuse. Referrals to psychiatrists or inpatient treatment are available. Services are free to students and all information is kept confidential.

The office is open Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 6 pm. Individual counseling sessions are available by appointment or on a walk-in basis. To make an appointment, call 747-2256, or stop by VE 203-A in the Seledon Martinez Health Sciences Building. Go to our Support Groups page for a listing of groups and meeting times for Fall 2012.

Ms. Gutierrez Sisneros is an advanced practice adult psychiatric and mental health clinical nurse specialist as well as mental health therapist and counselor. All 28 years of Ms. Gutierrez Sisneros’ nursing experience have been in rural Rio Arriba County and she considers rural nursing practice to be her true nursing clinical specialty. She also holds a master’s degree in Latin American studies with a focus on improvement of Indo-Hispano health status through use of both western and traditional lifeways.
