What is Cosmetology & Barbering?

Cosmetology and Barbering programs are designed to equip students with the necessary skills for New Mexico licensure and provide the foundational knowledge needed for full and part-time employment, or running businesses in the cosmetology and barbering fields.

Four Semesters, 1600 hours
Skills learned include:
Cosmetology Theory, Professional Image, Standards and Work Ethic, Facials, Hair Coloring /Cutting/Styling, Chemical Texturizing, Manicures and Pedicures, Plus Salon Business, Business Math and Computer Applications.

Certificate in COSMETOLOGY: This program provides you with the courses required by the New Mexico Board of Barbers and Cosmetology for licensure in this area (63 credit hours, 1600 clock hours) and expands those skills with the addition of General Education courses. (Total: 70 credits)

Associate of Applied Science in COSMETOLOGY: The program provides cosmetologists/barbers with the courses required by the New Mexico Board of Barbers and Cosmetology for licensure (63 credit hours, 1600 clock hours for cosmetologists and 48 credit hours, 1200 clock hours for barbers). It also expands these skills with additional General Education courses. This is not a transfer program. (Total: 85 credits)

Certificate in BARBERING: This program provides you with the courses required by the New Mexico Board of Barbers and Cosmetology for licensure in this area (48 credit hours, 1200 clock hours). The program also expands those skills with the addition of General Education courses. (Total: 55 credits)

Associate of Applied Science in BARBERING: This program provides you with the courses required by the New Mexico Board of Barbers and Cosmetology for licensure in this area (48 credit hours, 1200 clock hours) and expands those skills with additional general education courses. This is not a transfer program. (Total: 70 credits)

Our Associate degrees in Cosmetology and Barbering provide the courses required by the New Mexico Board of Barbers and Cosmetology for licensure.
