Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) is thrilled to announce the completion of a stunning new gazebo at Chacon Park, nestled on the historic El Rito campus. This beautiful addition not only enhances the park's aesthetic appeal but also serves as a welcoming gathering space for the El Rito community and visitors alike.
The gazebo project was made possible through the generosity of Rio Arriba County Commissioner Moises Morales Jr., who allocated county funds to support the enhancement of this cherished community space. The structure is designed to provide a serene environment for relaxation, community events, and social gatherings, reflecting the college's commitment to fostering community engagement and togetherness.
The grand opening was celebrated with a vibrant ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by key figures, including NNMC President Hector Balderas, Commissioner Morales, Board of Regents President Mike Martin, Regent Porter Swentzell, and executive team members Matt Baca and Scott Stokes. The ceremony highlighted the importance of community collaboration in bringing projects like this to fruition.
“This gazebo is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together,” said President Balderas during the event. “We are grateful for Commissioner Morales’ support and the efforts of everyone involved in making this vision a reality. It’s heartening to see our legacy campus revived and welcoming the community once again.”
The gazebo stands as a symbol of revitalization on the NNMC campus, encouraging students, faculty, staff, and alumni to come together in celebration of their shared history and future. As the college continues to invest in community improvements, there are hopes for even more developments that will strengthen the connection between the college and the El Rito community.
“This space will not only serve as a physical structure but will also foster connections among community members,” added Commissioner Morales. “I believe it will become a beloved spot for gatherings, events, and simply enjoying the beauty of our surroundings.”
The gazebo's unveiling marks a significant milestone in NNMC's ongoing efforts to enhance its campus facilities and create inviting spaces for community engagement. As residents and visitors alike gather under the new structure, it is anticipated to host various events, including picnics, educational programs, and cultural celebrations, further enriching the vibrant community atmosphere.
With gratitude to Commissioner Morales and all contributors, NNMC looks forward to many more improvements that will continue to bring the community closer together. Here’s to the future of Chacon Park and the many joyful moments it will foster!
