Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) recently hosted a highly successful New Student Orientation, welcoming approximately 170 new students to its vibrant campus. The event, designed to help students transition smoothly into college life, was packed with activities, workshops, and speeches that set the tone for an exciting academic year ahead.
The day began with a warm and heartfelt welcome from Dr. Larry Guerrero, who set the stage for what would be an informative and inspiring day. Students were introduced to the NNMC campus through guided tours, where they familiarized themselves with key locations such as academic buildings, the library, and student services. The tours provided an excellent opportunity for students to connect with peers and begin building relationships within the NNMC community.
Following the tours, students participated in a series of workshops aimed at equipping them with essential knowledge and skills for their college journey. An IT workshop covered the basics of navigating the college’s digital resources, ensuring that students are well-prepared to engage with online learning platforms and other technological tools essential for their success. The Title IX workshop was another crucial component of the day, where students learned about their rights and responsibilities concerning discrimination, harassment, and campus safety. This was complemented by a Safety & Security session, which provided valuable insights into maintaining personal safety on campus and accessing support services when needed.
A highlight of the orientation was the lunch session, where students had the unique opportunity to hear from NNMC President Hector Balderas. President Balderas delivered an inspiring address that resonated deeply with the new students. He emphasized the importance of community, perseverance, and the boundless opportunities that lie ahead for each student at NNMC. His words not only motivated the incoming class but also reinforced the college's commitment to supporting students as they pursue their academic and personal goals.
"At NNMC, we believe in the potential of every student," President Balderas said. "You are not just a number here; you are a vital part of our community, and we are dedicated to helping you succeed. The journey ahead may be challenging, but it is also filled with opportunities to grow, learn, and make a difference."
The orientation day concluded with a fun and engaging raffle, where students had the chance to win various prizes that added to the excitement of the day. Additionally, sweet treats were provided, creating a festive atmosphere that left students feeling welcomed and appreciated.
The success of the New Student Orientation at NNMC is a testament to the college’s dedication to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. The event not only provided new students with the information and resources they need to thrive but also instilled a sense of belonging and pride in being part of the NNMC community.
As the new semester begins, NNMC is excited to see how these new Eagles will soar, bringing fresh perspectives, energy, and passion to the campus. With a strong foundation laid during orientation, the college is confident that this incoming class will make significant contributions to the NNMC community and beyond.
